Home Improvement: Hacks That Could Change Your Life

by Kari Trail Butz 10/25/2021

Home improvement projects do not have to be difficult, time-consuming or frustrating. In fact, when you have the right hacks at your disposal, you can often get the job done quicker — and better.

Here are some home improvement hacks that will revolutionize the way you work inside and outside your home:

Use Your Pliers to Support Your Flashlight

If you are working under the sink or up in the attic, you know that there is no amount of natural daylight that can help you get the job done. To bring the light to where you are while still being able to use your hands, prop your flashlight up using your pliers. Simply place the flashlight in the pliers and tie a rubber band around the handles to keep it steady.

Use PVC Piping

PVC piping can be cut down and used for so many purposes in your home, such as:

  • Storing tools
  • Creating a place to store old caulk
  • Attaching to a shovel for a better grip

Extra PVC piping allows you to get creative and find unique ways to use this versatile product.

Clean Sandpaper with an Old Shoe

If you have sandpaper on your saw that is getting worn or dirty, then you can clean it up easily by running an old tennis shoe sole alongside of it. The sole of the shoe will bring up the dirt on the paper and make it look and feel good as new.

Hold a Nail in Place with a Bobby Pin

All you have to do is slide the small metal pin around the nail, and hold the ends of the pin tightly to keep it still while you hammer.

Touch Up Your Wall Paint With a Washcloth

If you accidentally bump the wall while you are painting, and it wipes paint away, you don't have to go over that area with the roller again. Simply grab an old wash cloth, dip it into the paint and dab the area. It will look good as new, saving you both time and energy.

Sometimes the simplest household objects can make any project that you are working on go more smoothly. These are just a few home improvement hacks that you can use, but there's plenty of more left to discover.
